One of our Adult Education Family Members of the month is Palmer Hudson. Palmer has been with Colleton Country Adult Education for 16 years and has been in education for 30 years. He is one of our morning GED instructors.
Palmer is a Navy Veteran. He enjoys playing the piano, writing, vegetable gardening and baking. He is a United Methodist pastor, which he says frames his view of teaching as a sort of mission work. He is also a certified instructor and trainer in the military, the education services office of the Beaufort Tri-command (MCAS, Beaufort Naval Hospital, and MCRD). He was also a Career Counselor. He started working with adults through the Colleton Improvement Collaborative back in 2000, which is what lead him to Adult Education. He has been teaching at Technical College of the Lowcountry since 2009 and also adjunct at other colleges on an as needed basis. He teaches English, Reading, Math, and College Skills. He is a GCDF (7 years active), and a Career Adviser.
Our other Adult Education Family Member of the month is Campbell Henderson. He is also one of our morning GED instructors. He has been with our Adult Education family for 4 years but has been in education for 27 years. He is married to Carolyn. He has two daughters and one granddaughter. He enjoys working on his farm, tennis, jogging and reading.
Thank you Palmer and Cam for your dedication and loyalty to Colleton County Adult Education. We are lucky to have you both.
We have a few students to brag about here at Colleton County Adult Education. These students have obtained their High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) through our program. Here's what they had to say about their experience:
"Getting my HSED was easy, but at the time challenging.
My primary instructor, Mr. Palmer, really helped me with my horrid math skills. Although still horrid, they are slightly less so.
The lady at the front desk, Mrs. Ginger, most awesomely coolest person ever and way to cool for school.
And oh boy, Mr. Ritter, is a blast. Kinda crazy but great none the less. Everyone is better than most teachers at the high school. :)"
"My time at Adult Education has been a great one. I was skeptical when I first enrolled and quite scared to be honest, but the staff here are legendary. I can't speak for the other students but I am here because I messed up. None of the teachers have to be here but they are because they recognize that we want to do better, and in my case, fix what I messed up.
Everyone here, Mrs. Crosby, Mr. Ritter, even Mrs. Ginger, they all truly care. It means so much to have them here. It really feels like a family."
"Colleton County Adult Education has allowed me to advance my education to a point at which I can achieve my career goals.
Mrs. Crosby helped me with my transitioning into the school program.
Mr. Ritter helped me to get on the correct programs and helped me to learn what I needed to pass my High School Equivalency Test to earn my diploma.
Mrs. Ginger helped me with all the paperwork and also encouraged me to do my best.
Mrs. Lewis helped me to improve my WorkKeys scores so I could obtain a gold WorkKeys certificate.
Mrs. Jones created a quiet, peaceful place for my WorkKeys and HSED testing.
I feel that my time was well spent at Adult Education."
